The Mezzo is the first high rise tower to be built in Edmonton's historic Whyte Avenue district in over 60 years. In order to move forward with the project, Mathew MacLash of WestOak Development needed to get approval from City Council to bring forward changes to grandfathered zoning bylaws.
Mayor Don Iveson sent a strong signal to developers looking to follow in WestOak's footsteps - if they want a tall development approved in this eclectic, cultural neighbourhood, they will need to give the same exceptional vision for design as The Mezzo will bring.
